What Does TOG Mean, and Does It Matter?
If you’ve ever asked yourself “What's a TOG and does it even matter?” then this blog is for you. Honestly, we get this question a lot, so we’re going to break it down for you nice and quick.
What does TOG mean?
The TOG rating was created in effort to reduce SIDS and stands for Thermal Overall Grade, a standard measurement to indicate how warm something is. It can be applied to everything from sleep bags to socks and duvets. So, the higher the TOG the warmer the product.

What is the right TOG for my baby?
When deciding on the best TOG rating, consider the clothes baby is wearing as well as the temperature in their nursery, or whatever space they're going to be snoozin' in. Although you can take the outside temperature into consideration, it mainly depends on the nursery temperature.
Babies and Temperature Regulation
There are so many benefits that come along with using a sleep bag, one of them being temperature control. When you have the proper TOG, it prevents your little one from being both too cold or too warm. A sleep bag eliminates the need for blankets, which baby can either twist themselves up in or kick off in the middle of the night.
It may be tempting to lean towards a warmer TOG, but overheating is a risk factor for SIDS.This is why room temperature is so important. Babies have a hard time generating their own heat, but they do retain it easily, so be mindful of this when making your choice.
